Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Wing raided an illegal call center operating in the Dakshini Dari area under Lake Town police station and arrested 21 people, including four women. The operation followed intelligence inputs and technical surveillance, which led officials to trace an IP address linked to fraudulent activities. During the raid, officers seized 29 computers, 2 laptops, 23 mobile phones, 3 pen drives, 2 routers, 2 switches, 24 ports, 1 hard disk, and ₹26 lakh in cash.
DIG Anjali Singh of the Cyber Crime Wing stated that a source had alerted them about the call center’s operation. "We used the IP address obtained from the original location to track the illegal setup," she said. Authorities suspect the call center was engaged in online fraud, targeting international victims through spoofed identities and deceptive methods.
The arrested individuals are being interrogated to gather more information about their operations and possible connections to larger cybercrime networks. Investigators are analyzing the seized digital equipment and financial records to track the extent of the fraud. Legal proceedings have begun, and officials are working to identify potential victims. Further inquiries are underway to determine if more locations are involved in similar activities.
